016: We Chase The Sun Together (Yozakura Disko Mash) - DE SOFFER x Mariah Carey

Today I'm sharing my mashup of Chase The Sun, cover version of the Planet Funk classic by DE SOFFER and one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs, We Belong Together.
Chase The Sun was released by the Italian electronic band Planet Funk in 2001. It became a global club hit and was played a lot in Sydney. I adored this track because of the infectious beats, gorgeous strings, electric guitar riffs and hypnotic vocals by Dan Black. Their album Non Zero Sumness (2002) spurred other hits like Who Said (Stuck in the UK) and The Switch. There was an amazing remix of the latter by the Australian electronic band, Rogue Traders, and it was on high rotation in my DJ sets. Chase The Sun has been remixed several times over the years, and now it got a lovely nu-disco remake by the Tel Aviv producer DE SOFFER.
Mariah Carey is one of the biggest recording artists of our generation and nobody would argue that she is the queen of Christmas. Her songs and remixes were soundtrack of my 90's. She is one of the few pop artists who took club remixes so seriously that she re-recorded the vocals for her remixes by the house music master, David Morales. My favorite DM remixes were Dreamlover and I Still Believe. My all time favorite remix of MC is Through The Rain remixed by Hex Hector and Mac Quayle. The late legend Peter Rauhofer did a couple of brilliant remixes of We Belong Together in 2005, and then he also gifted us his bootleg mashup of the song with Toca's Miracle by Fragma, which was a pure genius.
My mashup was made for Sydney Mardi Gras this year and it reminded me of that Rauhofer mashup while making it. I loved the mashup so much because it had the punch and the euphoric trancey energy to it that her official remixes did not have. I'm happy with my mashup because it gave the song the nu-disco energy with the indie touch that the other remixes did not have. This is the beauty of mashups. I hope you like it.
