016: We Chase The Sun Together (Yozakura Disko Mash) - DE SOFFER x Mariah Carey

Today I'm sharing my mashup of Chase The Sun, cover version of the Planet Funk classic by DE SOFFER and one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs, We Belong Together. It's called We Chase The Sun Together.

Chase The Sun was released by the Italian electronic band Planet Funk in 2001. It became a big club hit in Europe and it was also played a lot in Sydney. I loved this track because of the infectious beats, gorgeous strings, electric guitar riffs and hypnotic vocals by Dan Black. Their album Non Zero Sumness (2002) spurred other hits like Who Said (Stuck in the UK) and The Switch. There was an amazing remix of the latter by the Australian electronic band, Rogue Traders, and it was on high rotation in my DJ sets. Chase The Sun has been remixed several times over the years, and it recently received a funky nu-disco reboot by the great Tel Aviv producer, DE SOFFER.

Mariah Carey is one of the biggest recording artists of our generation and nobody would argue that she is the queen of Christmas. MC is one of the few pop artists who took club remixes so seriously that she re-recorded the vocals for her remixes by the house music master, David Morales. My favorite remixes by DM were Dreamlover and I Still Believe. My all time favorite MC remix is Through The Rain (2002), remixed by Hex Hector and Mac Quayle. The late legend Peter Rauhofer did a couple of superb remixes of We Belong Together (2005), and then he also gifted us an unofficial mashup of the song with the 2008 Inpetto remix of Toca's Miracle by Fragma, which was a pure genius.

I made this mashup for my sets for Sydney Mardi Gras, and I'm happy with it not only because I mashed two of my favorite songs together, but also because MC hasn't really done nu-disco remixes with her songs. Giving songs an unexpected spin is the real pleasure of making mashups. I hope you like it.
